Stand-in captain Rahul Dravid on Thursday blamed the collective failure of the star-studded batting line-up for the series defeat against Australia and said India needed to learn from the world champions in preparing for a series.

"We have been outplayed in Bangalore and Nagpur. We have not scored as many runs as we should have and that's one of the major reasons for our defeats," Dravid said following Australia's 342-run win in the third Test.
The victory gave the Aussies an unbeatable 2-0 lead and thus their first series win in India in 35 years.
"Australia have also planned very well for this tour and we need to learn from the way they have gone about preparing for this series," Dravid said.
Pointing pointed out the success the same set of Indian team members had achieved in Australia last season when they very nearly won the series before settling for a 1-1 draw, Dravid said that the difference was in batting.
"We scored lot of runs in Australia. When that happens it's always a big advantage. Another difference was the presence of Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne here," said Dravid.
