West Bengal on alert in wake of Malegaon blasts

On a directive of the Union Home Ministry, "we have asked the district magistrates and the police authorities to be on maximum alert," Chief Secretary AK Deb said.
The West Bengal government on Friday alerted all districts and asked the police and para-military forces to step up vigil in the wake of the Malegaon blasts.

Inspector General of Police (law and order) Raj Kanojia said instructions have been issued to all superintendents of police to launch extensive patrolling in the sensitive areas and step up security.
"We have asked the SPs to instil confidence among the people and see that communal harmony is maintained," he said.
According to the police, all communally sensitive areas were put under scanner.
