AT LEAST 12 Nehru Enclave flats have been re-grabbed by hooligans, but LDA officials have yet to file the FIR.

The officials had threatened to file an FIR if the illegal occupants broke into Enclave flats on Thursday last. On Friday, they came to know of the seal break, but almost three days have passed since the news was published in these columns and the LDA has yet not lodged a formal complaint with the police.

Despite assurance given by the police to initiate legal action against the illegal occupants at Nehru Enclave colony ,the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) officials are reluctant to lodge an FIR in this regard.

Executive engineer with LDA YK Jain had sent an application to the Gomti Nagar police station on Friday seeking help in getting the illegal occupants evicted. Jain had referred the report collected by the department about 12 flats occupied by the hooligans.

These flats had been vacated during the evicting drive conducted by the LDA in coordination with the police on April 15. The department had sealed these flats but the hooligans occupied it again breaking open the seal.

Police sources revealed that the flats were occupied again at the instance of an influential member of the ruling party and some LDA employees. Besides, the police report indicated that some student leaders too are among these daring illegal occupants. These student leaders were granted permission to go ahead by a student leader-turned-minister in the State Government, the sources alleged.

This was the reason, the sources said, the concerned LDA officials did not muster courage to lodge FIRs against the culprits.

It may be recalled, a top LDA official had claimed in a statement issued five days back that they would lodge FIRs against the illegal occupants as soon as they would collect report about the flats sealed by the department. But, no such efforts have been made yet.

Talking to HT Lucknow Live, CO Gomti Nagar Man Singh Chauhan said that none of the LDA officials had come to him or to the station officer (SO) or contacted them regarding the matter yet. He said if the LDA wanted to lodge an FIR in the case, anyone of them would have come to him or to the police station.

The CO further said they had received merely an application from the LDA at the police station seeking police help in ensuring security of the flats. The police could not initiate legal action unless the LDA did not lodge FIR into the matter, the CO said.

In the absence of the right initiative from the LDA, the Nehru Enclave eviction drive is back to square one. If the LDA, sources say, persisted with the same attitude then hooligans would make it even difficult for cops.
