Who’s an Indian?

I am tired of repeatedly hearing and reading that 41-year-old Sunita Williams is a tried-and-tested Indian.

I am tired of repeatedly hearing and reading that 41-year-old Sunita Williams is a tried-and-tested Indian. After all, she was born in the US, is married to an American citizen and has, from all accounts, not visited India. Why are we adopting her as a citizen?
