UTTAR PRADESH’s underworld don Brijesh Singh is alive and living lavishly in Malaysia along with his wife and three children. This revelation, made after a recent breakthrough by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has removed all doubts about Brijesh’s existence.

The revelation about Brajesh came to light when CBI sleuths succeeded in picking up the don’s Kathmandu-based confidante Tribhuvan Singh, who was also carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head for last one decade.

The CBI team was probing Dhanbad’s top coal mine broker Pramod Kumar Singh’s murder case of  2003 when they picked up prime suspect in the case Suresh Singh. Suresh was Brijesh’s business partner who spilled the beans and helped the CBI in trapping Tribhuvan.

The sleuths are now busy making legal arrangements to locate Brijesh to bring him to India with the help of Interpol.

Not only the underworld, but UP police and CBI sleuths, had believed that Brijesh was killed after a shootout between the don and his rival gangs in Dhanbad, Bihar two years back. It was then believed that Brijesh was critically injured in the shootout and had died while he was undergoing treatment in a Banglore hospital.

However Tribhuvan, who was declared absconding along with his boss by the UP police, finally uncovered the mystery of Brijesh. However, the CBI sleuths were yet to declare the Tribhuvan ‘catch’, officially.

Soon after getting scent of Brijesh’s whereabouts, the CBI reportedly alerted their Interpol counterparts to help them locate the fugitive don. They have pressed their ‘means’ into service to collect details about the don.

CBI sources revealed that the cops also have succeeded to get the phone number of the don.

However Brijesh, as the information, never used any phone to talk to his lieutenants in India.  While collecting details about Brijesh the cops also came to know about other fugitive dons -- Santosh Shetty of Mumbai and Prakash Pandey alias PP Pandey alias Bunty Pandey of Uttaranchal  -- staying in Malaysia. Another fugitive don Chhota Rajan too has business interests in Malaysia.

He is believed to be a frequent visitor to the place. The UP police could never pull a smart one on Brijesh as he always kept his hunters clueless, partly with his underworld statistics and partly by shrewdly using his political clout.

He is India’s most wanted with Rs 2 lakh on his head, yet the police don’t have a single photograph of his. A native of Varanasi, Brijesh is wanted in over two dozen cases in UP, Mumbai, Gujarat and Bihar. He is also a co-accused with global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim in a Mumbai murder case.

Details with CBI stated that Pramod Kumar Singh used to provide services to two top archrival coal mafiosi Surya Deo Singh and Suresh Singh. After Surya Deo’s mysterious death few years back his sons Bachcha Singh, an influential politician of Bihar, and Ramadhin Singh had taken over their father’s trade.

Brijesh too has a major stake in coal mine business and used to assist Suresh Singh in the trade.

In September 2003, Pramod struck a deal worth several crores in favour of Suresh Singh. Bachcha Singh and Ramadhin also contacted Pramod for the same contract and Pramod had no option but to double-cross the dons.

He withdrew himself from the deal leaving the dons in the lurch. Pramod’s act irked the dons. Pramod was issued life threats by Bachcha Singh and Suresh Singh following which Pramod took shelter at a senior politician house in Delhi.

However, in October 2003, Pramod was shot dead near his house in Dhanbad by two motorcycle-borne youths. Pramod, in his dying declaration had named Bachcha Singh and Ramadhin. Bachcha Singh was arrested later but his party members forcibly got him released.
