Three brides, two of them on horses, led the marriage processions to the grooms’ house in at Kandawa village in Varanasi on Sunday.

While two of them, Sunita and Babita, led their baraats on horseback, the third one, Mina, reached her groom’s house in a car. Contrary to the traditions, the grooms’ father received the brides at the doorstep and even touched their feet.

A large number of locals witnessed this unique arrangement in which five couples tied the knot. The one-of-a-kind marriage ceremony took place at the house of Dr DL Kashyap, director of Kashyap Films and Television Research Institute. He married off his three sons and two daughters on the occasion.

Sunita, daughter of Rambali Patel and resident of Lahiya village in Varanasi, reached the Kashyap house riding a horse. Kashyap received the baraat and touched Sunita’s feet. All the rituals, usually performed by the father of the bride as per the tradition, were performed by the father of bridegroom.

Same scene for the remaining two brides. Mina, daughter of RV Verma, a resident of Chitbisrav village, married Pavan Kashyap. Babita, daughter of Hoshiyal Singh and resident of Lalpur, was married to Ravi Kashyap. She was the one who came in a car.

It was a dowry-less arrangement and the reason behind all this, according to Kashyap, was cost management.
