Crime against women is a hotly debated topic. While rape and sexual harassment occupy a big space in the public domain, and rightly so, there is yet another crime that receives relatively much less attention - acid attacks.

In what is sure to leave you deeply moved, an NGO, Make Love Not Scars, has released a video that shows an acid attack survivor Reshma. Called Beauty Tips by Reshma, the under 2-minute video has Reshma tell the world how to apply lipstick well, in other words, how to get perfect red lips. Through the course of the video, Reshma shows the viewers, step by step, the process of applying lipstick.
Reshma, a Mumbai teenager, was in Allahabad in 2014 to take an exam, when her brother-in-law attacked her with sulphuric acid. She was left with a permanently damaged left eye and a partially closed and infected right eye. She suffers from severe burns and disfigurement, and doctors say she requires a series of cosmetic surgeries for her wounds to heal.
As the video plays, it is hard not to get hit by the irony of the situation and rage. That scarred face of Reshma, that one eye that is permanently damaged and the incredible sadness of the other will stay with you for a long time.
Towards the end of the video, Reshma draws a parallel between the easy availability of lipstick and acid. She adds how this is the single biggest reason behind acid attacks. It ends with a call to sign a petition asking for a ban on the open sale of acid in the market.
