Will DGP check trans-Gomti policing too?

SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT of police (SSP) Ashutosh Pandey would have been at the receiving end of further embarrassment had the Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh decided to go on a ‘surprise inspection’ tour of the trans-Gomti area instead of visiting the comparatively better Hazratganj area on Friday night.

The DGP lost his temper at the lax policing at Hazratganj crossing on Friday night and reprimanded the SSP in front of the latter’s subordinates for failing to leading the Lucknow police force properly.

DGP Bua Singh, who could not be contacted despite several calls made to him, is possibly was unaware about the lax policing in the trans-Gomti area. One could hardly find a single constable on picket duty at any of the major posts in trans-Gomti area during night leave aside night patrolling in other congested areas.

Bua Singh had lost his cool on finding the police post at Hazratganj crossing unmanned when he visited the area around 9.30 pm. He had referred to the policing in the State Capital as being the worst while admonishing the SSP in the presence of the DIG (Range) Subhash Chandra and other policemen. The DGP had even called the city police and the SSP incompetent before leaving for Nazirabad, Aminabad and Kaiserbagh.

He, however, did not visit the areas where policing is worst. Police stations like Madiaon, Ghazipur, Chinhat, Hasanganj, Aliganj, Vikas Nagar and Gudamba have become a safe hideout for hardcore criminals and land sharks.

Station officers (SO) of Gudamba, Aliganj, Ghazipur and Gudamba and Station House Officers of Chinhat and Hasanganj probably have forgotten that there were senior officers around too, to supervise their activities. SO Madiaon NK Pandey, who was transferred a few days back, was known for ‘convincing’ the SSP whenever he was caught committing a serious offence.

An official posted in the city, on conditions of anonymity, said the influence of SOs and SHOs could be gauged from the fact that they did not inform their immediate seniors before taking any important decision even in cases of heinous crimes. The SOs and SHOs feel free to release any accused from the police station or favour land mafia.

SHO Chinhat, RK Sharma, runs an ashram at the police station premises and claims to treat serious diseases merely by offering ‘holy’ water. Instead of dealing with the crime and law and order situation, Sharma can be seen busy with his followers at the police station.

Similarly, SOs of Gudamba and Ghazipur too, hardly follow directives issued by their senior officers including the SSP. Majority of these SOs and SHOs enjoy their links the in corridors of power.

Has the DGP any more plans to inspect the policing in trans-Gomti area?
