Woman boxer falls off train after scuffle with robber

A Delhi-based boxer was seriously injured after she fell from a moving train following a scuffle with a robber in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district, Government Railway Police officials said on Friday.

A Delhi-based boxer was seriously injured after she fell from a moving train following a scuffle with a robber in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district, Government Railway Police officials said on Friday.

Simran Verma fell from the Farakka Express late on Wednesday night and seriously injured her legs after she confronted the robber who tried to snatch her bag and flee.

The incident took place near the Modha railway crossing on the outskirts of Faizabad.

She was shifted to New Delhi by Kaifiyat Express for better treatment on Thursday, authorities said.

Her teammates - Pawan, Sagar and Surendra - have accompanied her, according to a railway official.

She said that there was a tablet and more than Rs. 30,000 in her bag.

Verma, a resident of Morris Nagar in the national capital, was returning from a boxing event at the Banaras Hindu University.

Additional superintendent of police (Railways) RS Gautam said that they are trying to apprehend the attacker.

Her bag has not been traced yet.
