A WOMAN was allegedly kept in confinement along with her child and raped for more than a year by a contractor who threatened to kill her child if she resisted his attempts. The astonishing story came to light when the woman managed to escape from the abductor’s clutches along with her son, reached her husband and subsequently informed the police.

The complainant, aged 30, and her husband Virendra worked on the site of Rafiq, a contractor and native of Bagroda, over a year ago. On the pretext of taking her to another construction site, Rafiq asked the victim to come with him on his motorcycle on October 7, 2004. She trusted him, as she had been working with him for quite sometime.

Rafiq sat her child, who was then three and half year old, in the front while Kala sat on pillion. A while later she sensed that the motorcycle was going outside the city and told Rafiq to stop but he allegedly threatened her that he would throw her son from running motorcycle if she dared scream. The accused kept the woman in a house in Indore where he stayed for almost seven months.

He kept the house locked while going out. Later Rafiq brought her to Bhopal and kept her first at Chhavni for a few months, then at Gandhi Nagar and recently at Khanu Gaon. He kept on threatening the woman and raping her.

However, she managed to escape somehow and along with her son, now nearly 5 years old, reached her sister’s place. Subsequently, she met her husband and approached the police. The Piplani police have registered a case of abduction, rape, confinement and atrocities on Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe against the accused who is absconding.

The victim told police that she had been given such threats by Rafiq regarding her son and the other two children, an eight-year-old boy and the 12-year old girl, who were with her husband that she dared not think about escape.

The accused would keep her inside the house and gave nothing except food. The police have launched a hunt for him and are investigating the case.
