"Fulsara Begum, 35, fed poison to her three children, including a five-year-old daughter, and then swallowed the same toxin in a bid to commit suicide. The mother and the two sons - Sheikh Rajib, 11, and Sheikh Kalo, 9 - died immediately and the daughter, Rejina, was admitted to a nearby hospital by the locals. Her condition is critical," Howrah District Superintendent of Police N.K. Singh told IANS.

"She fed the poison to the children with sugar so that they could not realise what exactly they were swallowing," he said.

The incident took place at Amta area in Kolkata's twin district Howrah, about 30 km from here.

Singh said: "After primary investigation it was revealed that Fulsara was having some marital discord with her husband, Sheikh Rafik, who got married with another lady few months back."

"She might have killed her children and committed suicide in a state of frustration and disappointment after she came to know about the second marriage of her husband," he said, adding that the police is now investigating the case.
