The woman had checked in at the hotel along with her boyfriend.

Identified as Neetu Rai, 35, wife of Saswat Rai of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, she was found murdered inside her room at the Haryana Tourism Corporation-run Rajhans Hotel.

“One Umesh Kumar checked in the hotel at 12 noon on Sunday,” SP Jain General Manager of Rajhans Hotel said on Monday, adding, “our staff tried to call them at the hotel intercom on Monday but there was no response”.

Police said the hotel staff had earlier received an anonymous call in the morning, informing them that the mobile of Neetu Rai, who was staying in the room, was not responding.

“ The hotel staff called us,” Ajeet Kumar, SHO Surajkund police station, said.

“We opened the door with a duplicate key and found the woman lying dead,” Singh said, adding, “the victim seems to have been strangulated to death with her chunni”.

According to preliminary inquiry, the woman—who was staying in a rented accommodation in Sector 37 area of Faridabad—was working for a cellular phone company.

The person who checked in at the hotel in the name of Umesh is missing.

Rajhans is close to the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, where shooting events will be held during the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
