Media persons were a little puzzled when they received a message this morning that Youth Congress workers were to burn an effigy of film star Sanjay Dutt at the Collectorate in connection with the blockbuster `Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, but rushed to the spot nevertheless.

There were just six Youth Congress workers who carried an effigy of Dutt, who has played the lead role in `Lage Raho…’ and a poster of Mahatma Gandhi on two-wheelers.

The workers shouted `Sanjay Dutt Murdabad’, but went on to plead to delete it when electronic media persons warned them it would come in their bytes. Then they were tutored to say “We protest the use of word `Gandhigiri’ in the film Munna Bhai”, after which they went ahead with burning of the effigy.

Apparently they were called to protest just for the sake of photo-op and probably none of them had seen the film, which has been lauded by many, Gandhi’s heir Tushar Gandhi included, as a good contemporary medium to bring forth Gandhian values. Even the Congress has asked all its members to watch the movie, which has been made tax-free in Delhi.

The million-dollar question now is - would Gandhiji have approved of such antics today?
