Yerran Naidu escapes assassination bid

The TDP leader escaped with minor injuries in a landmine blast set off by Naxalites in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh late on Sunday.

TDP leader K Yerran Naidu escaped an assassination bid by PWG Naxalites in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh late on Sunday, police said.

Naidu escaped with minor injuries in the landmine blast triggered by the Naxalites near Singapuram village, police said on Monday morning.

However, his two gunmen and driver sustained serious injuries in the blast.

Naidu who was discharged from hospital on Monday morning was still in a state of shock, according to reports reaching Hyderabad.

The blast occurred when Naidu was returning to Srikakulam from Tekkali as Sunday was last date for election campaign for the first phase of election on April 20.

After the incident the TDP leaders who were accompanying him immediately shifted Naidu to Srikakulam Goverment hospital.

His vehicle was badly damaged in the landmine explosion, police said.

Naidu is re-seeking election from Srikakulam constituency.
