"He came to the ground today (Sunday) with the team but he again fell ill and had high fever after which the team manager arranged for him to be sent to the hospital for fresh tests and later on he returned to the hotel to take rest," a team official was quoted as saying by The News on Sunday.

Younis was taken to a hospital in Kochi and put under observation while urine, blood and stool tests were carried out to diagnose the reason for his persisting fever since last on Tuesday.

The official said there was a fear that Younis might be down with malaria, which was why fresh tests had been carried out. The official said it was unlikely that he would be fit before the second one-dayer.

"If he has contracted malaria, then obviously he will need to rest for a while," the official said.

Younis was his team's leading scorer in the recent Test series, amassing 508 runs at an average of 101.6, including a double century.
