'5,773 stray dogs sterilised in Indore'

In its reply to the high court on Monday, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) claimed that they had sterilized 5,773 stray dogs in Indore between April 14 and November 19.

In its reply to the high court on Monday, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) claimed that they had sterilized 5,773 stray dogs in Indore between April 14 and November 19.

The corporation has also given a zone-wise break-up of the sterilisation.

In its reply, the IMC said there are a total of 31,976 stray dogs in the city. Zone 3 in the city has the maximum number of 3,049 stray dogs and the minimum number of 1,478 dogs are in Zone 5.

IMC area has been divided into 15 zones and zone 3 comprises areas falling near IMC office, while Sukhliya area comes under zone 5.

The IMC in its reply also claimed that there are 440 dogs in the Devguraria trenching grounds and all of them have been sterilised.

Petitioner’s advocate Amitabh Upadhyay said the division bench did not sit on Monday and therefore the case was not taken up for hearing and only the IMC filed its reply.

The next hearing has been slated for December 8.
