Parthiv Patel slammed a fighting fifty for Mumbai Indians against Rising Pune Supergiant in the Qualifier 1 of 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. (HIGHLIGHTS)
It was Parthiv’s second half-century this season and it came off 37 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. The innings also helped Parthiv overtake Kieron Pollard as Mumbai Indians’ highest run scorer this season. (LIVE SCORE)
Parthiv was quick off the blocks, scoring 21 in just 10 balls, hitting three huge sixes, to give Mumbai Indians flying start but he slowed down later as Mumbai Indians lost quick wickets.
While he held fort at one end, Mumbai Indians kept losing wickets from the other end as Lendl Simmons (5), Rohit Sharma (1), Ambati Rayudu (0) , Pollard (7) and Hardik Pandya (14) heading back to the pavilion on quick succession. While Simmons was run out, Rohit, Rayudu and Pollard were dismissed by young off-spinner Washington Sundar.
Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane (56), Manoj Tiwary (58) and MS Dhoni (40) chipped in with useful contributions to help Pune post a decent total which at one point looked unlikely.
Earlier, Rahane had became the 11th player to score 3,000 runs in IPL. The Rising Pune Supergaint opener reached the mark with a singled on the leg side off the bowling of Lasith Malinga in the 11th over. Before the start of the match Rahane needed just 43 runs to reach the landmark in his 110th IPL match.
During in his time in the IPL he has played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and the Rising Pune Supergiant with bulk of his run scored for the Rajasthan Royals.
