A three-and-a-half year old girl was allegedly abducted for a ransom of Rs 18 lakh at the behest of her maternal uncle.

However, all the accused including the conspirator landed in police net after a few hours of the incident on Friday; and the baby is now safe with her parents.

Ravi, 29, hatched the conspiracy to kidnap his niece, who lives in the house of his maternal grand parents in Awadpuri colony in Jhotwara area, to clear his debt of Rs 18 lakh.

According to the plan, he even went to a multiplex in Vaishali Nagar to pay the kidnappers (his accomplices) a ransom of Rs 18 lakh and brought the girl successfully but his call details and suspicious conduct landed him in police custody.

Aakrit, daughter of an advocate, was abducted by two motorcycle borne two youths (Kuldeep and Varun Pratap) Friday morning when she was waiting for her school van near her house.

After ten minutes, her maternal grandmother received a call on her mobile. The kidnappers demanded Rs 15-20 lakh as ransom. Family members raised an alarm and police were informed. The kidnappers made two more calls to the grandmother.

Ravi left his house along with his mother around noon and went to a multiplex to give ransom to the kidnappers. He was carrying a bag containing bundles of blank papers cut in the size of currency notes and told his mother that he has arranged Rs 18 lakh in cash for the Ransom.

He wanted the money, which he actually did not pay as ransom, extracted from his father to pay his debt.

They brought back the girl from the multiplex. Ravi claimed that he arranged the amount from his friends and relatives on short notice, but on investigation it was found that he was lying.

When he was questioned strictly, he stumbled upon and confessed that he had hatched conspiracy to extract the amount later, the police said.

The girl was abducted by Ravi's cousin Kuldeep and Varun, who work in Ravi's placement, agency whereas Ravi's girlfriend 24-year old Dolly Mishra had cut the papers in the size of currency notes.

"The accused were arrested under section 364-A of IPC and are being interrogated," Jaipur Police Commissioner BL Soni said.
