Shahpura manhandling: Cong expels leader, issues notice to two workers

The state Congress on Monday expelled nagar chief Banshidhar Saini and issued notices to two party workers in the Shahpura incident, in which the party’s farmer wing state president Sandeep Choudhary was manhandled during ‘Mera Booth Mera Gaurav’ programme.

However, the party has not taken any action against the senior leaders named by Choudhary in his complaint.

“Congress nagar chief Banshidhar Saini was expelled from the party for six years and show cause notices were given to Ved Prakash and Laxman on disciplinary grounds,” said Archana Sharma, the state Congress spokesperson.

A video of the Congress programme, which went viral on social media, showed some people dragging and manhandling Choudhary, throwing chairs and shouting slogans.

Choudhary and Congress block president Raj Kumar Jat were allegedly manhandled by the supporters of two senior leaders of the party in the presence of state party incharge Avinah Pande on Friday.

Choudhary had told HT that he was targeted as he too was preparing to contest for the Shahpura assembly seat. Pande had later denied his presence at the time of the incident.
