The much-awaited talks between Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje and the Gujjar representatives, led by Kirori Singh Bainsla, to resolve the violent agitation over the community's demand for ST status began in Jaipur on Monday.
While Raje is assisted by Health Minister Digamber Singh in the talks being held at her official residence, Bainsla is accompanied by an 11-member delegation of the Gujjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (Gujjar Reservation Struggle Committee).
This is the first time that direct talks are being held between Raje and Bainsla, a retired army colonel.
The discussions, originally scheduled for Sunday, could not be held since the Gujjar leader reached the state capital well past midnight.
The talks assume much significance as the future of the agitation depend on their outcome.
