World Sufi Spirit Festival begins in Jodhpur

The annual addition of World Sufi Spirit Festival began at the historic Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur on Friday with mesmerising performances by world renowned artists not only from India and Pakistan, but also from the Azerbaijan, Iran, Morocco, Tajikistan and Canada.

The annual addition of World Sufi Spirit Festival began at the historic Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur on Friday with mesmerising performances by world renowned artistes not only from India and Pakistan, but also from the Azerbaijan, Iran, Morocco, Tajikistan and Canada.

Famous Sufi singers from Coke Studio Kavita Seth and international artist Abeer Nehme, well known for performing different music styles with great ease and professionalism, will perform for the first time at the fest.

Karni Singh Jasol, director Mehrangarh Museum Trust said, "The festival began with reciting of religious songs at Jaswant Thada and Rajasthani qawaalis at Mehragarh fort," adding Kavita Seth will perform on Friday night at Janani courtyard, and Abeer Nehme on Saturday evening. The festival will end with religious songs on Sunday afternoon.

Singers from the mountain folk of the Pamir, Tajikistan will bring to life devotional music, dance and mystical songs in the form of 'Sahiba'- the graceful ballerina on Saturday.
