Sen said steps had been taken to remove blockades over road and railway tracks immediately to ensure peace and prevent any untoward incident. Forces will be deployed in all sensitive areas to maintain law and order.

The state BJP President Rahul Sinha expressed hope that the bandh would be successful. He claimed that the party has received support from seven out of 21 political parties they approached.

All India President of the BJP Minority Morcha Shahnawaz Hussain, who came here to encourage party workers to make the bandh a success, blamed the Centre and the state Left Front government for the unprecedented price rise.

The BJP would also utilise the bandh to protest against the power tariff hike in the state, Sinha said.
