“There are five important witnesses in this case, and when I learnt that they were being threatened on the phone I met senior CID officers and requested them to do the needful to ensure that they could come to court without any fear,” Ghosh told HT.

Senior CID officers confirmed that they were investigating the phone calls.

The Khadim trial is taking place inside the Alipore Central Correctional Home, in which six accused are being tried while five or six others are yet to be arrested.

Roy Burman, one of the directors of the Khadim shoe company, was kidnapped around 11 am on July 25, 2001, from CN Roy Road under Tiljala police station. The CID conducted a probe into the matter, and Burman was released after the payment of a huge ransom.
