8-year-old girl raped by youth in West Bengal village
An eight-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a youth visiting her village in Mahishadal area of West Bengal’s East Midnapore district on Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the village.
The girl, who was found in a paddy field with her hands and legs tied and clothes torn, has been admitted in Tamluk government hospital in critical condition.
The accused, Gopal Chandra Shaw (28), a resident of Dayaldasi village in Nandakumar area, is absconding. Police have detained Shaw’s sister, whom he came to visit two days ago.
Residents of Keshabpur village, who started looking for the missing girl and found her in a paddy field, told police they could never imagine a guest committing such a crime.
Some villagers claimed to the police that when they found the girl, Shaw was also there in the field but he managed to give them a slip.
The victim’s father runs a paan shop near Keshabpur railway station. The girl had come to the shop on Thursday evening but did not return home even after two hours.
Police said a medical test has been conducted and complaint lodged at Mahishadal police station.
“The accused is absconding. We are looking for him,” said Partha Biswas, officer in-charge of Mahishadal police station.
“Shaw came to our village as a guest. I want to see him punished,” said the father of the victim.
