The daughter of pavement dwellers, she was found by her mother on Wednesday morning covered in blood. The child was admitted in a nearby private hospital. The doctors said her condition was critical.
Later, the mother lodged a complaint at the Park Street police station.
“The medico-legal examination would take place as soon as the child’s condition improves,” said Minati Adhikary, chairperson, Child Welfare Committee.
Pallab Kanti Ghosh, joint commissioner of police (crime), said the child appeared to have been raped and tortured. “We have lodged a case of rape,” he said. The police have detained four persons for interrogation.
Over the last few months, atrocities against women have been dominating the crime scenario in the state.
