President mourns Tapan Sinha's death

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil condoled the death of noted filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Tapan Sinha saying he would always be remembered for his work.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil condoled the death of noted filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Tapan Sinha on Saturday saying he would always be remembered for his work.

"An acclaimed film director Tapan Sinha shall always be remembered for his films such as 'Kabuliwala' and 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut', which touched on social issues of our times," she said.

"In his passing away, the nation has lost a creative personality and a legendary filmmaker," the president said in her condolence message.

West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi in his message said Tapan Sinha's creations would always inspire Bengal as well as the cultural world of India.

Expressing deep shock, he said, "His unique and deep insight into life and his selection of subjects have placed him in the same row of world's great filmmakers."
