Summer season is also synonymous with delicious, refreshing, and nutritious fruits that are high on water content. Kharbooza or muskmelon is one of the most awaited fruits of the season for its unmatchable flavour and fragrance. Muskmelon that originated in Iran was named so because of its magnificent scent. A storehouse of potassium, vitamins, minerals, muskmelon is considered great for kidney health, blood pressure and eye health. It is a great snack for people with diabetes too as it is low on glycaemic load and keeps blood sugar levels in check.

People who face constipation issues in summer can also get benefitted by muskmelon considering it's high on dietary fibre and helps to ease bowel movements. An excellent source of vitamin C and anti-oxidants, muskmelon can be trusted for increasing the natural immunity and prevent against heart diseases and cancer.

Ayurveda expert Dr Dixa Bhavsar in the recent Instagram post recommends her followers to enjoy this 'desi delicacy' in summers and talked about its wonderful benefits.

"It is best for UTI (Urinary tract infection), flushing out toxins, helps in RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and gout. It is also good for skin, keeps you hydrated in summer, relieves constipation, useful in menorrhagia and other bleeding disorders. Best for people with heat issues," says the expert.

Dr Bhavsar adds that the fruit balances the pitta and vata dosha and says the even people suffering from diabetes can eat it in moderation while it is in the season.

How to add muskmelon to your diet

Muskmelon juice: Remove seeds of the fruit and cut it into cubes. Blend two cups of muskmelon and strain to obtain juice. It is an excellent source of nutrition for babies over 6 months.

Muskmelon milkshake: Chop muskmelon into cubes, add milk, cream and some crushed ice to make muskmelon milkshake.

Muskmelon kheer: If you are looking for healthy dessert options in summer, your search ends with muskmelon kheer. Cook muskmelon cubes along with milk, sugar and dry fruits.
