Peace Party chief Mohammad Ayub has blamed the Madani duo of Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Hind (JuH) for thwarting a ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (Grand Alliance) of the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh for Lok Sabha polls 2019.

“The uncle and nephew (Maulana Arshad Madani and Maulana Mehmood Madani) have stopped the coming together of the Congress, SP and BSP. Like in Assam where they opposed All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to ensure a split of secular and Muslim votes, they are against the Peace Party in UP,” said the Peace Party chief.

While Arshad has sided with the SP, Mehmood is with the Congress, tweeted the Peace Party leader, who after failing to get any seat from the Congress, the SP and the BSP announced the formation of the National Progressive Alliance with three little known local outfits, last week.

Maulana Arshad Madani is the chief of JuH, and reportedly does not see to eye to eye on several issues with his nephew Maulana Mehmood Madani, who is said to lead the rival faction within the organisation. The JuH is the political wing of the Deobandi sect and is well-entrenched in Western UP belt. Maulana Arshad Madani had met SP president and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav recently. A renowned Islamic scholar, he has shared close ties with Akhilesh’s father and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
