As the film portrays the life of Modi, the NCP has demanded a ban on its release stating violation of model code of conduct. The movie’s trailer was released on Holi (March 21). The film is set to release on April 5, a week before the general elections.

The cultural wing of NCP on Friday met Pune district collector Naval Kishore Ram and urged him to take action against the makers of the film saying that exhibiting posters portraying the name of the prime minister is a clear case of violation of poll code.

NCP leader Babasaheb Patil said, “The movie is released during the election time to woo voters by showing them the life of prime minister. It is a clear case of violation of the model code of conduct. We have urged theatre owners to not screen the movie.”

The NCP has also written to the Chief Election Commissioner, the state election commissioner and the chief electoral officer to ban the film.

The political party has threatened city wide protest, if the biopic is released in the city. “If the theatre owners release the movie in Pune, then NCP will not be responsible for the consequences,” said Patil.

The film, titled PM Narendra Modi, has been directed by Omung Kumar, who has Mary Kom and Sarbjit to his credit. The biopic also stars Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Prashant Narayanan, Zarina Wahab, Barkha Sengupta and Anjan Shrivastav.
