A cyberworld mischief-maker has wreaked a virtual havoc in a Rae Bareli village, so much so that one of over-a-dozen 'terrorised' girls was forced to attempt suicide after a cooked-up story of her affair was posted on the facebook wall of this miscreant.
It all started on September 24 when residents of Naseerabad village started getting friendship requests from a person claiming to be Sahil Abbas on their facebook accounts.
Since a boy with the same name existed in the village, the requests were accepted by most of them, especially who were studying or working outside.
However, the 'facebook friends' were shocked when the profile user, who seemed to be an insider, started posting absurd and vulgar comments about persons from different families of the village.
"He wrote absurd comments about everybody - men and women - of all age-groups. Though allegations were baseless, they were presented in a manner that could set the rumour mills abuzz," said Murtaza, one of the three complainants, who approached the cyber cell of Lucknow police on Tuesday.
"Some comments were really obnoxious and even propelled a girl to attempt suicide when a relative working abroad rang up to ascertain the veracity of the allegations posted on the site," added Murtaza while talking to HT. He claimed some other family members and relatives working in Saudi Arabia and Britain also started calling their families after reading such absurd comments on the site. "In fact, the content of the posts have strained the relations of some married couples," admitted Monis Hasan, another complainant.
"Many of the villagers have blocked the user but some are still in touch and liking and commenting on the unchecked absurdity of the miscreant," said Viladat Hasan, another complainant, who wants the culprit to be traced and booked.
"The case is curious. The culprit seems to be an insider who is keeping a watch on every development, even the complaint lodged against him," said Dinesh Yadav, the cyber cell in charge. "That is why he has stopped updating soon after we started investigations," added Yadav.
