A man, who was angry with his wife over a property issue, allegedly killed his 10-year-old daughter at Taharpur village in Mainpuri district, police said on Sunday.
Sher Singh, 50, an alleged alcoholic, attempted to kill two of his other children too but failed, police said. He then tried to hang himself but his brothers saved him, police added.
Mainpuri SSP Rajesh S said: “Owing to family tension, the accused strangulated his 10-year-old daughter Muskan to death and attempted to kill the other two (children) but failed. The accused has been arrested and sent for treatment because he tried to hang himself to death unsuccessfully.”
Sher Singh was angry with his wife as she had transferred four bigha of land in her name to prevent him from selling it off, police said.
Sher Singh first tried to strangle his five-year-old son Vivek when his wife was away. When his two daughters began crying, Sher Singh caught hold of Muskan, 10, the eldest of the three and strangled her. Anu and Vivek, the other two children, escaped.
In frustration, he attempted to hang himself but his brothers intervened. He was later arrested.
