The incident took place at the time of opening of the gates for Taj viewing at sunrise. The monkeys moving freely on the premises chased a few other members of the group.

‘A member of French group was injured and suffered bruises because of the attack. The staff of ASI attended to her and first aid was given after which she left for medical advise,’ said Ankit Namdev, conservation assistant for ASI at Taj Mahal.

Monkey menace is nothing new at the monument , listed in UNESCO list of world heritage. These monkeys had even caused damage to structures on the premises.

‘We have repeatedly written to Agra Nagar Nigam about the monkey menace and stray dogs. However, effective action is awaited,’ said Namdev.
