There is fresh trouble for BJP, MP from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi who is already facing charges in the court over his alleged ‘hate speech’ delivered during the Lok Sabha election campaign in April last year.
Registering protest over the speech delivered by Varun in a public meeting organised at Bulandshahr on Saturday both the Congress and Samajwadi Party MLAs on Monday demanded that Varun should be summoned to the Vidhan Sabha on the charge of contempt of the house.
“He should punished by the house over making indecent comment against the Chief Minister Mayawati and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar”, the MLAs said.
Raising demand through question of propriety the leader of the Congress legislature party, Pramod Tiwari said the chief minister is the leader of the house and in his speech Varun Gandhi made immoral and indecent comment on chief minister and this comes under contempt of the house.
“The Speaker, Vidhan Sabha should issue warrant against the BJP MP and direct the police to take action against him. He is trying to divide the society on communal line. He should be summoned to the house so that MLAs could grill him on the issue and teach him how to behave on public forum”, Tiwari said.
“The Speaker should also take advice of the Advocate- General before initiating action against the BJP MP”, he said.
The chief whip of Samajwadi Party legislature party, Ambika Chaudhary said the statement made by BJP MP should be tabled in Vidhan Sabha. If he had made indecent comment against the leader of the house then he should be punished for the misdemeanor. A committee should be constituted by the Speaker to inquire into the matter and action should be taken on the basis of its report.
The SP, MLA from Pilibhit Riyaz Ahmed said during Lok Sabha election campaign Varun has compared me with Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. “Through communal speech he tried to divide the voters”, he said.
The leader of the BJP legislature party, Om Prakash Singh said though BJP does not support the use of un-parliamentary language against any leader still the BJP MP name should not have been taken in the Vidhan Sabha since he is not the member of this house. The Congress and SP MLAs have raised demand for action against him on the basis of newspaper report. Usually the house does not take cognizance of the matter reported in the media.
The Speaker, Vidhan Sabha, Sukhdeao Rajbhar said the matter requires examination. “I reserve my order on the issue”, he said.
