Experts from NITI Ayog, ministry of health and family welfare and National Institute of Health Management will meet on January 22 to discuss the draft prepared by the UP health and family welfare department.
The government plans to have a health policy in place to draw investment in health sector during the UP Investment Summit scheduled to be held in February.
Principal secretary, health and family welfare, Prashant Trivedi said the government was bringing the policy to ensure clarity in the role of the public as well as private players in health sector.
“The state government is also working on the public-private participation in health sector. Along with providing various services at government hospitals, private players have also shown interest in running health centres and hospitals. The health policy is likely to make the participation of private players transparent,” he said.
Trivedi said the state government was working on universal health services and the policy would reflect the state government’s vision of providing best healthcare services to the people. “The policy will also set the rules for health insurance to protect the interest of the patients,” he said.
“Though the state government had prepared a health policy in 2002 but it was merely a copy of the central government’s national health policy. The state government is planning a state specific health policy,” an official privy to the development said.
An officer in the health department officer said the state government was planning to implement the charter of the patients’ right to help people get access to health services without discrimination.
“The focus will be on telemedicine and regional connectivity. People residing in far-flung areas of the state will be able to get advice of doctors and medical care,” he said.
