In a shocking incident, a senior Uttar Pradesh government officer Vinod Kumar Rai (48) allegedly committed suicide by consuming sulphas at his official residence on Saturday.
Vinod Kumar Rai, who was posted as Additional District Magistrate (West) in the state capital, consumed poison at his Butler Palace colony residence in Hazratganj late Friday night.
The ADM was rushed to CSM medical University trauma centre, after his domestic help Rakesh spotted him vomiting, where he died Saturday morning, police said.
Though the motive behind the extreme step was not clear, family tension is suspected to be the cause behind the suicide.
He was posted in Lucknow as ADM (West) for the past six weeks.
Senior official including District Magistrate Anurag Yadav and Deputy Inspector General Ashutosh Pandey reached the spot to probe the matter after getting the information.
