The Lucknow Municipal Corporation is set to tackle the menace of illegal hoardings after urban development minister Azam Khan warned that they were not only spoiling the skyline of the city, but also causing deaths and accidents.

On Thursday, LMC officials removed 25 banners, two gantries, four unipoles and four hoardings despite stiff opposition by advertisement agencies.

Municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh has asked officials to remove the hoardings and issue fresh permits for installing them.He said if agencies put up illegal hoardings again, they would have to face heavy fine and would also be blacklisted.

Earlier, LMC’s reluctance to launch a drive to remove illegal hoardings had led to agencies installing them even in no-advertisement zones.
