Petition seeks CWG inauguration by President

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday issued notice to the Secretary General of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on a writ petition seeking direction to get the games inaugurated by the President of India.

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday issued notice to the Secretary General of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on a writ petition seeking direction to get the games inaugurated by the President of India.

The court also directed the respondent to file their replies within a week.

"A foreigner cannot be permitted to inaugurate the games which are scheduled to start from October 3 in New Delhi, the petitioner, Dr Nutan Thakur, said.

A division bench comprising Justices Uma Nath Singh and Virendra Kumar Dixit issued the notice on the petition filed by Thakur's counsel, seeking direction to disassociate India from the membership of Commonwealth as now it is a sovereign country.
