While there were two errors in the ‘fill in the blanks’ questions in paper code 322 FR - each carrying half a mark, the option given for ‘fill in the gap’ in question number 5 sub-section B was absolutely wrong. One of the option read ‘expect’, which should have been printed as ‘except’.

Another error was noticed in a question in sub-section C where the sentence was printed incorrectly.

When the examinees detected the mistakes they pleaded invigilators to sort out the matter. But there was no response from those performing examination duty. The students said despite their repeated requests to teachers on duty, none came to their help. Many examinees feared they might end up losing one mark due to this faux pas.

Blaming the examination cell, an English teacher of a UP Board school alleged that there was no one to proof-read the question paper during the course of printing of papers.

He said the board must take a lesson from such instances and ensure these things don’t repeat in future.

The UP Board exams have a history of such errors. There have been instances such as Geography paper showing Kashmir as a part of Pakistan. Mistakes in Mathematics and English papers have also been a routine.
