Earth Day 2019: Google Doodle celebrates with interactive slideshow
Earth Day 2019 Google Doodle: The Doodle also tells us interesting facts about the endangered organisms. For instance, the Wandering Albatross has the widest wingspan of any living bird.
On Monday, April 22, Google Doodle marked World Earth Day. The Doodle takes us around the Earth to show us some of the most amazing creatures that inhabit our planet. There is an interactive slideshow which shows us a total of six organisms- Wandering Albatross, Coastal Redwood, Paedophryne Amauensis, Amazon Water Lily, Coelacanth and the Deep Cave Springtail.
The Doodle also tells us interesting facts about the endangered organisms. For instance, the Wandering Albatross has the widest wingspan of any living bird. Paedophryne Amauensis is known to be the world’s smallest frog and smallest vertebrate. One of the world’s largest aquatic plants is the Amazon Water Lily and the Coelacanth is one of the world’s oldest living species at 407 million years old. The doodle has been created by Kevin Laughlin.
Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, and was a reaction to an oil spill that took place the year before off California’s coast, leading to the spilling of three million gallons of oil. This led to the death of thousands of dolphins, seals, seabirds and sea lions.
The objective of Earth Day is to raise awareness about environmental issues, and all over the world events take place that gives impetus to the practice of recycling, reducing pollution and taking better care of our planet.
This year the theme of Earth Day is ‘Protect Our Species’ and its objective is to garner awareness regarding the rapid devastation of plant and wildlife populations all over the world.
