20-year-old peddler, who used to sell in posh societies near Mumbai, arrested
A 20-year-old youth, a Class 6 dropout, was arrested on Tuesday for selling cannabis (ganja) for the past one year.
The police have recovered 5 kg ganja, whose market value is Rs 3.4 lakh, from him.
It was found by the police that the accused used to sell ganja to only children and youth from well-to-do families.
Mahesh Choudhary is resident of Dombivli and has told the police that he peddles drugs for his household expenses.
The police also seized a car, which the youth said belongs to his friend.
When police questioned the friend, he said was not aware Choudhary being a drug peddler.
A police officer from Thane crime branch said, “Choudhary used to sell ganja to residents of posh housing societies so that he could sell at a higher price and earn more money.”
Senior police inspector from Thane crime branch unit 3, Saju Jhon, said, “We got to know through our informer that a youth had been selling ganja. When our officers confirmed this, we formed a team and arrested Choudhary, who was about to get in a car in Dombivli on Tuesday. When we asked about the car, he told that the car does not belong to him.”
According to Choudhary, he had told his friend that he needed the car to drop his relative at the station but he went to Dombivli to sell ganja.
Jhon added, “We checked the car and found 5 kgs of ganja. As per the court order, we will destroy the seized narcotics. Choudhary was remanded in police custody till Friday.”
