The Matunga police arrested a 54-year-old man on Sunday for allegedly creating a fake e-mail address of a minister to cheat an environmental consultant to the tune of ₹1.5 lakh by promising him a contract under a government scheme.
The accused, Jyotikumar Agarwal had emailed himself from the fake address and then forwarded the e-mail to the complainant Manish Patel, 54, to show he was in touch with the minister. Agarwal had also shown Patel a fake bank message stating he had transferred ₹1.75 lakh to the minister. When Patel realised he had been cheated, he had approached the minister’s office, who then informed Matunga police.
