Boy drowns after falling into a pit at construction site in Mumbai

A 10-year-old drowned after he fell into a water-filled pit at a construction at Highland Park in Balkum area, Thane on Monday.
The victim, identified as Satish Dhotre, resided in a nearby area at Ram Maruti Nagar at Dhokali.
The body was recovered by the locals.
The Regional Disaster Management Cell claimed that the construction pit had a barricade but the boy jumped into it oblivious of its depth.
“The pit at the construction site had barricades. Locals tried to rescue him immediately, but by the time they pulled him out, he was already dead,” said Santosh Kadam, chief of Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), Thane Municipal Corporation.
The RDMC team rushed Satish to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The police are investigating into the case and probing whether the developer was at fault. They will take action accordingly.
