Car runs over man trying to cross Mumbai-Pune E-way, catches fire

Mumbai city news: After hitting him, the car struck the divider and caught fire. Its occupants – four of a family, including two children – were unhurt and rescued by passersby.

A man died after he was hit by car on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Panvel on Monday. The police believe he was around 40 years old but are yet to ascertain his identity.

After hitting him, the car struck the divider and caught fire. Its occupants – four of a family, including two children – were unhurt and rescued by passersby.

According to the police, Yuvraj Ningole, 35, a resident of Digha in Navi Mumbai, his 32-year-old wife and two children were returning home from Beed district. As they were crossing the bridge near Kon village, a man tried to cross the road.

“The man randomly walked on to the highway. On seeing him, Ningole braked but ended up hitting him. Because he slammed the brakes hard, the car’s engine caught fire,” said an officer at Panvel Taluka police station.

The police arrested Ningole, who was produced in court and released on bail.

The officer added, “The man who was hit suffered severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body. People took him to a nearby hospital but he died there during treatment. We have not been able to identify him so far,” he said.
