Central Railway motorman overshoots signal in Mumbai, again

This is the third incident since April of a motorman overshooting the signal on CR

In the third incident in nearly a month, a Titwala-bound fast local train overshot a red signal near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Friday morning. The local train was terminated at Dadar railway station wherein the motorman was put off duty and the train was taken to Kurla car shed for inspection.

As a result, the local train services on the fast down line were operating with a delay of 10 minutes. “The train was immediately terminated at Dadar railway station and sent for inspection as a technical snag is suspected. The Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) occurred just as the train left from CSMT. However, the enquiry into the incident has been started and we expect the report in a few days,” said a central railway (CR) official.

This is the third incident of a motorman overshooting the signal on central railway. Last week on May 14, the motorman of a Belapur-bound train overshot the signal near Kurla station and on April 21, a signal was overshot at Vidyavihar railway station.

Meanwhile, CR has asked the guards of suburban local trains to alert motormen about an approaching station on the fast corridor. CR feels the move is necessary to avoid signal passing at danger or overshooting, especially at newly introduced or irregular halts on the fast corridor.
