Constable dead, 3 injured in accident on Mumbai’s Eastern Express Highway
Three people inside the other vehicle also suffered multiple injuries.
A police constable (AGE) died while three others were injured in a road accident on Eastern Express Highway (EEH), near Amar Mahal junction, on Sunday.

The constable, Ramesh Hiraman Chavan, who was posted at Vinobha Bhave Nagar police station as a driver, was heading north in his private vehicle, when a speeding vehicle passed him from the left, said officers of the Nehru Nagar police station. Chavan panicked and to avoid getting brushed, slightly moved his car on the right. He lost control over the wheels in the process and his vehicle jumped on to the south-bound stretch.
Another car heading south collided with Chavan’s vehicle. The collision impact was so high that Chavan sustained grievous injuries and three people inside the other vehicle also suffered multiple injuries.
The four were rushed to Somaiyya Hospital, where Chavan was declared dead. The three others are under treatment, said an officer.
“We have registered a case of IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence) against an identified person and looking for him,” said senior inspector Sanjay Kale at the Nehru Nagar police station said.
