FYJC admissions finally end after eighth and last round

The long-drawn out process for online admissions to first year junior college (FYJC) — spanning over two months and consisting of eight rounds — finally ended late on Friday night. Close to 98% applicants secured admissions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, this is barring students passing SSC re-examinations held in July. A separate round is underway for them.

The long-drawn out process for online admissions to first year junior college (FYJC) — spanning over two months and consisting of eight rounds — finally ended late on Friday night. Close to 98% applicants secured admissions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, this is barring students passing SSC re-examinations held in July. A separate round is underway for them. Out of the 2.33 lakh applicants, 2.28 lakh students secured a seat, with 8,068 students confirming admission in the special round of admission that concluded late on Friday night.

This was the final chance for students to secure admission in junior college through the online process conducted by the office of the deputy director of education.

Around 1,83,379 students are admitted through various quotas such as minority, in-house and management, while the rest secured in the general category.

Three additional rounds had to be conducted as thousands of students were unhappy with the colleges allotted to them in the first four rounds of admission.

“Those who dropped out of the online process must be pursuing non-state board curriculum, moved cities or joined diploma courses,” said BB Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region.

The additional rounds delayed the admission process. These rounds had to be conducted because of Bombay high court’s order, which stated that there should not be any admissions offline.
