After inspecting 315 eateries on Wednesday, the civic body demolished illegal extensions and modifications in 26, most of which are in south Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sent 190 of the inspected restaurants show cause notices, asking them rectify minor violations, said civic officials.

It also confiscated 105 illegal cylinders from the eateries.

BMC officials said they found a minor fire safety violation at Theory Restaurant in Kamala Mills, where a major fire in a rooftop restro-bar killed 14 on December 29. They said they issued a notice to the restaurant for using the building’s basement as a storage space.

Mickhael Pinto, owner of Theory, said the BMC inspected the restaurant for violations. “But, we are 100% fire compliant. All our exits and passageways are safe and no part of our restaurant was demolished,” he said.

The restaurant has seven to 15 days to rectify the violation, said an official.
