Mehta has also ordered an inquiry into the matter, the results of which will also be submitted to the state government.

Bansode has been accused of sending two non-BMC employees posing as staff to collect a file pertaining to the Colaba sewage treatment plan. Once they were handed the file, they started clicking pictures of the documents, which aroused suspicion.

Bansode was appointed by the state government as the chief Municipal auditor in June last year. He was appointed to audit the road repair and desilting work, as scores of irregularities were reported in both the departments. The move had then irked the Shiv Sena, which saw it as an interference by the state government

Civic chief Ajoy Mehta confirmed the development and said that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
