A 42-year-old Mumbai police constable committed suicide on Sunday at his police quarters opposite the NM Joshi Marg police station at Lower Parel.

The constable identified as Prasad Shivram Laad was a wireless operator who lived with his wife and sister.

According to the NM Joshi Marg police, they received information that Laad hanged himself at his third floor residence on Sunday afternoon .

On reaching the spot, the police officers found that Laad had hanged himself using a dupatta.

They rushed Laad to KEM hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. “We have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter,” said Virendra Mishra, deputy commissioner of police (zone 3). The police did not find any suicide note.

Officials said the reason behind Laad’s death was a family dispute between his wife and his sister which was stressing him out. “Laad hanged himself while his wife and other family members had gone out,” added Mishra.

The NM Joshi Marg police said that they have not recorded the statement of Laad’s wife or other family members yet as they are in shock.
