Mumbai detective held for selling clients’ data
A week ago, four private detectives were arrested from Kalwa by the Thane crime branch for selling client data for a sum of up to Rs50,000.
A week after the city crime branch arrested four detectives for illegally selling call data records (CDR), a well-known detective from Mahim, was arrested in Dadar on Friday, in connection with the case.

The 65-year-old accused, Rajani Pandit, has been a private detective for the past 32 years and used to sell her clients’ CDR . A week ago, four private detectives – Makesh Pandiyan,42, Prashant Palekar,49, Jigar Makawana,35, and Samresh Jha alias Pratik Mohpal,32 – were arrested from Kalwa by the Thane crime branch (unit 10). They used to sell CDR for Rs25,000 to Rs50,000. The police said Pandit used to purchase CDR from the four for around Rs15,000 and sell them at a higher price. Deputy commissioner of police, Thane, (crime) Abhishek Trimukhe said, “We are questioning Pandit to know whose CDR details she has bought and who she sold them to.” The police have also contacted the telecommunication firm for more information
The accused have named four aides in the case.
